Performance horses have higher calorie requirements. This feed allows you to feed an incredible amount of calories with reduced risk of digestive upset.
When it comes to equine nutrition, Nature's Select simply renders all pelleted and textured feeds obsolete!
Horse Feed Ingredient Features and Benefits
- Multiple sources of wholesome grains
Includes Corn, Sorghum, Oats, Barley, and Brown Rice. Multi-grain formulation provides an optimum balance of amino acids, fibers, and starches that when extruded become a "cool" source of highly digestible energy to horses. Super premium quality wholesome extruded grains support the long term health and maintenance of performance horses replacing the need for excessive levels of liquid fat.
- Multiple Premium Fiber Sources
Includes Alfalfa, Beet Pulp, and Coastal Bermuda Grass Meal. These primary sources of fiber contain unique properties that when combined provide an optimum balance of digestible and fermentable fiber, while maintaining high levels of energy.
- Flax Seed
Excellent source of OMEGA-3 (Alpha-Linolenic Acid). Research has shown that OMEGA-3 fatty acid helps to maintain coat, hoof, joint, and metabolic function of equines.
- Yucca Schidigera Extract
An all natural plant product that reduces gas production and manure odor resulting from a reduction of ammonia gas production.
- Diamond V® Yeast Culture
Diamond V yeast culture teams up to stimulate fiber-digesting bacteria with essential vitamins and metabolites to increase available protein and energy for production. It also promotes organisms that consume excess lactic acid that might build up in the hindgut. This helps neutralize pH, making the large intestine a better fermentation site. Controlling excess acid is especially important with modern high-grain, high-energy rations, where Diamond V helps stabilize digestion for optimum nutrition.
- SEL-PLEX®
Selenium yeast helps address equine productivity, particularly in stallions, mares, and performance horses. It supports health maintenance, body development, normal reproduction and breeding, and enhanced exercise and performance requirements.
- 4-Plex® EQ
Trace minerals for horses provide a balanced package of four essential trace minerals that help maintain hoof , joint, and skeleton integrity. Supports immune response, skin and coat, feed digestibilit, and reproduction.
- Bio-Mos®
A natural sugar derived from a select strain of yeast that supports gut health and integrity to maintain overall health and performance in horses at all stages of development.

Improved Grain Digestion
Helps to maintain a healthy digestive system by reducing the amount of undigested grains entering the hindgut for fermentation. A reduction in hindgut fermentation results in a decrease in gas and heat production
Reduced Weight Handicap
Water is used by the horse in the fermentation process. When hindgut fermentation is reduced, so is the need for excess water which weighs more than 8lbs per gallon.
Reduced Bulk Density
Encourages slower eating, allowing more time for small intestine digestion... the way NATURE intended.
Reduced Bacteria
The heat and pressure of extrusion processing kills most potentially harmful bacteria
Controlled Moisture
Increases shelf life without the need for artificial preservatives.
Great Flavor
Horses prefer the naturally good flavor of extruded ingredients without any added coloring or flavoring.
Reduced Formulation Constraints
No need for binders, flavors, colors, or preservatives, which saves space in the formula for additional quality nutrition.

Extrusion is a relatively complex cooking and drying process that is commonly used in both the human and pet food industry. Extrusion utilizes a combination of steam and friction as heat sources to cook a formula under pressure. The sudden release of pressure exiting the die causes starch molecules to EXPLODE (much like popcorn) to form a unique expanded food nugget. As little as 30% of the starches in uncooked grains, typical of those found in pelleted and textured feeds, are digested by a hores's small intestine.
The digestion of extruded, gelatinized starch is increased to as much as 90%, which decreases the amounts of undigested grains passing into the hindgut for fermentation.
The Equine Digestive System
The horse is considered to be a non-ruminant herbivore, meaning it does not have a multi-compartment stomach (like a cow), and consumes only plant foods in nature. Equine digestion is unique in that the small intestine uses enzymes for digestion of primarily proteins, starches and fats. The hindgut (large intestine) utilizes a bacterial fermentation process to break down the fibrous portion of the equine diet. All horses that require a high level of energy are most susceptible to digestive upsets caused primarily from undigested grains passing into the hindgut. In severe cases, this can lead to colic, which is the #1 killer of horses today.
Horses with a healthy, efficiently functioning digestive system have a decreased risk of colic and are less nervous—displaying a comfortable calm demeanor and allowing them to better focus.
The extrusion process offers extraordinary benefits to the equine digestive system!
Because of the benefits, extrusion processing constitutes a major portion of horse feeds produced in many foreign countries including Australia. Until now, the knowledge of this unique procedure has not been communicated to the owners of horses in the United States.
